CTB Series Magnetic Separator

The CTB series magnetic separator is one of the most widely used wet permanent magnet drum magnetic separators, primarily used for the wet separation of fine-grained, strongly magnetic minerals, especially suitable for roughing, cleaning, and scavenging operations of minerals such as magnetite and roasted ore. It adopts a semi-countercurrent trough structure ("B" indicates semi-countercurrent), significantly improving concentrate grade while ensuring high recovery rates, and has become the mainstream magnetic separation equipment in iron ore beneficiation plants.

  • Applicable Materials
  • Strongly magnetic mineral separation: magnetite, pyrrhotite, roasted hematite, ilmenite, etc.;
  • Heavy media recovery in coal preparation plants: efficient recovery of magnetite powder, reducing media loss;
  • Non-metallic mineral purification: iron removal and purification of quartz sand, feldspar, kaolin, etc.;
  • Building materials and environmental protection: impurity and iron removal from materials such as river sand, cement, and coal;
  • Industrial waste recycling: recovery of metallic iron from steel slag and furnace slag.

The CTB series magnetic separator, officially named CTB type wet permanent magnet drum magnetic separator, includes:

  • C: Magnetic separator (Chosen)
  • T: Tubular
  • B: Semi-countercurrent trough (Ban-niuliú)

This equipment uses high-performance permanent magnet materials as its magnetic source, requiring no external power supply. It is energy-efficient and reliable, and widely used in industries such as metallurgy, mining, building materials, and coal. Typical models include CTB612, CTB7518, CTB1024, and CTB1230, with drum diameters ranging from 600mm to 1500mm and processing capacities ranging from several tons to over one hundred tons per hour.

Working Principle

The CTB magnetic separator achieves high-efficiency separation based on the magnetic differences of minerals. Its core process is as follows:

1. Pulp Intake: The slurry is fed into the separation zone from the bottom of the tank in a loose, suspended state.

2. Magnetic Adsorption: Under the influence of a strong magnetic field, magnetic minerals (such as magnetite) are adsorbed onto the surface of the rotating cylinder.

3. Magnetic Stirring: Due to the alternating polarity of the magnetic system along the circumference, the magnetic minerals repeatedly tumble ("magnetic tumbling") as the cylinder rotates. Gangue inclusions are removed by the flushing water, improving the purity of the concentrate.

4. Concentrate Discharge: When the magnetic minerals reach the weak magnetic field zone, they are detached from the cylinder surface by the flushing water and enter the concentrate tank.

5. Tails Discharge: Non-magnetic minerals are discharged from the tailings outlet with the slurry flow.

Due to the use of a semi-counter-current tank structure, the slurry flow direction is basically consistent with the direction of the magnetic field force, allowing magnetic particles to fully contact the high magnetic field area, thus achieving both high recovery rate and high grade.

Product Structure

The CTB series magnetic separator mainly consists of the following six parts:

  • Cylinder: Constructed from 2–3mm thick stainless steel plate, welded together, with a wear-resistant rubber lining to prevent wear and enhance magnetic adhesion.
  • Magnetic System: Utilizes a composite of ferrite or neodymium iron boron rare earth permanent magnets, installed in an open configuration inside the cylinder. The magnetic field strength can reach 100–600 mT (1000–6000 Gs).
  • Tank (Bottom Box): The working area is made of stainless steel and equipped with a water spray pipe to regulate slurry concentration and flow rate.
  • Transmission Device: A motor drives the cylinder to rotate via a reducer. The rotation speed is typically 10–40 r/min and is adjustable.
  • Support and Frame: Supports the entire machine structure, mostly welded from carbon steel, ensuring stability and durability.
  • Magnetic System Adjustment Mechanism: The magnetic declination angle (generally 5°–25°) can be adjusted via cranks and levers to accommodate different ore properties.

Product Advantages

1. High Separation Efficiency
The semi-countercurrent structure design allows for full interaction between the slurry and the magnetic field, resulting in superior concentrate grade and metal recovery compared to co-current and counter-current magnetic separators. It is particularly suitable for the fine separation of 0.15–0.3mm fine-grained minerals.

2. Energy-Saving and Electricity-Free Operation
The permanent magnet system requires no excitation current, resulting in zero operating energy consumption. A single unit can save over 150,000 kWh of electricity annually, significantly reducing operating costs.

3. Simple Structure and Easy Maintenance
No complex electrical system, resulting in a low failure rate. The modular design allows for quick replacement of the magnetic system and drum, reducing downtime by over 60%.

4. High Adaptability
Different specifications (such as CTB1030, CTB1224, etc.) can be customized according to mineral type, particle size, and throughput, and multiple units can be used in series to improve concentrate grade.

5. Environmentally Friendly And Durable
The roller is covered with a 5-8mm wear-resistant rubber layer, which is resistant to acid and alkali corrosion (pH 4-10) and has a service life of more than 8 years. It is equipped with a closed-loop water circulation system with a water reuse rate of >95%, achieving zero wastewater discharge.
